Tatsu Ken Jutsu

Gendai Budo Dojo offers instruction in Ken Jutsu and we are members of the Tatsu Ken Jutsu Kyokai.  Our style of Ken Jutsu consists of kata done from a standing position, practical variations of kata utilizing offensive and defensive movements and contact drills practiced with a Bokken (wooden sword).  Tatsu Ken Jutsu is dedicated to excellence in Iaido / ken jutsu Japanese Sword training, known for systematic, common sense and step by step methods of presenting the Japanese Sword curriculum to the beginner as well as advanced students from the seated and standing postures.

The instructors at Gendai Budo Dojo have trained under and received certification from Shihan Roger Wehrhahn, the head of Tatsu Ken Jutsu.  Shihan Wehrhahn is a Roku-dan (Sixth-Degree Black Belt) in Muso Shinden-ryu Iaido.  He was a student of Mr. Takeshi Mitsuzuka.  Mitsuzuka Sensei was a model for Seitei Gata in a well-known book, Japanese Swordsmanship, by Gordon Warner and Donn Draeger.  Shihan Wehrhahn also heads the North American San Shin Kai, the organization originally formed by Mitsuzuka Sensei.  He has been practicing martial arts since 1969 and also has been recognized as a Nana-Dan (Seventh-Degree Black Belt) in Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate and also holds high-level Dan (Black Belt) ranks in Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo.  Shihan Wehrhahn travels nationally and internationally to conduct lectures and seminars on Iaido, Karate and Kobudo.

Mitsuzuka Takeshi believed that wherever people where, if they could look up in the sky and see the same sun, moon, or the stars, they could be joined in the practice of iaido. He traveled the world teaching swordsmanship to those eager to learn, in order to make this dream a reality. We, members of the North American San Shin Kai, are a small part of his legacy.
